〈매크로 하이브리드 풍경〉, (2024)
"Macro Hybrid Scenes" explores the relationship between plants and vision, portraying modern technology as a real-augmented device. The work consists of a TV, a curved stainless steel pipe supporting the TV, and a reflective metal floor plate. At first glance, it appears to be a simple arrangement of a TV on a stand, a familiar sight. However, the image is cleverly repeated through a frame narrative on the TV screen itself. The TV displays close-up images, highlighting the intricate details of objects like leaf veins or protrusions, and thin lines that evoke a machine-like perspective.
Through this device, viewers can observe without moving, and they are able to examine things on the screen that would be difficult to see with the naked eye. The vividness of the TV dissolves the thin glass barrier between the viewer and the object, making the device almost invisible to the observer. Yet the artist repeatedly places the TV in such a way that the viewer is constantly reminded of its presence. This juxtaposition of real pipes and their on-screen counterparts, along with images that blur the line between photography and graphics, creates an uncanny effect. The hyper-clear, high-definition visuals, sharper than what the eye can naturally see, provoke a subtle dissonance, disrupting the viewer's habitual way of seeing and introducing a twist to their perception.
〈매크로 하이브리드 풍경〉은 식물과 시각의 관계를 탐구하며, 현대 기술을 실재-증강 장치로 묘사한다. 작품은 TV, TV를 지탱하는 곡선형 스테인리스강 파이프, 그리고 반사되는 금속 바닥판으로 구성된다. 작품은 익숙한 TV와 스탠드의 단순한 배치처럼 보이지만, 이미지는 화면 안에서 프레임 내러티브를 통해 교묘하게 반복된다. 화면 속 TV에는 잎맥이나 돌출부와 같이 세밀한 관찰이 필요한 대상의 윤곽을 강조하는 클로즈업 이미지와 기계의 시각을 연상시키는 얇은 선들을 보여준다.
장치를 통해 관람자는 몸을 움직이지 않고도 사물을 관찰할 수 있으며, 맨눈으로는 볼 수 없는 것들을 화면을 통해 자세히 살펴볼 수 있다. TV의 생동감은 눈과 대상 사이의 얇은 유리막을 쉽게 녹여내어, 장치의 존재를 인식하지 못하게 만든다. 그러나 작가는 TV를 반복적으로 배치하여 관람자가 장치를 명확히 인식하도록 만든다. 실제 파이프와 화면 속 파이프의 이질적인 만남, 사진과 그래픽의 경계를 모호하게 만드는 이미지, 맨눈으로 보는 것보다 더 선명한 고화질 풍경이 주는 불쾌한 느낌은 관찰의 미묘한 불협화음을 제공하며, 관람자의 기존 관념을 비틀어 놓는다.
