Nature is Blue (2018)
“In South Korea, there was no word to distinguish between green and blue in the 70's. When I saw my mother seeing the green light and saying 'blue light', I began to confuse whether the color we see is different or just the word is different. There are a lot of developed technologies, that people can see without light in the dark and make people travel all over the world through the monitor. However, maybe I only know blue.”
‘Nature is Blue’ exhibition is that understanding collisions and harmony between nature and digital devices. People have developed other tools to coordinate their vision to observe situations that are not easily seen, and we are increasingly becoming accustomed to using tools. The work is an image of a natural object created by using digital cameras and 3D graphics tools. This photograph, which has abandoned all the tools used to combine the various technologies and make the images 'realistic' in the photographs, aims at making the naked eyes of the viewer constantly suspicious. The photograph of 'Blue Nature', in which the subject is photographed using flash lighting in a forest where nothing can be seen, is an attempt of the author to control the technology to escaping dependence on technology in human life.
“어머니는 저에게 신호등의 ‘초록 불’을 보고 ‘파란 불’이라고 명명하셨습니다. 그때부터 나는 우리가 서로 바라보고 있는 색이 다른 것인지, 이 불빛을 부르기 시작했던 단어가 다른 것인지를 생각해보기 시작했습니다. 기술의 발전에 따라 새로이 이해해야 할 개념들은 점점 많아지고 있고, 사람들은 직접 보지 않아도 다양한 색을 관찰할 수 있습니다. 그 과정에서 많은 빛이 초록색에서 파란색으로 바뀌기도 합니다.”
‘자연은 파란색이다’작업은 오늘날 이루어지는 자연과 기술의 충돌과 조화를 이해하기 위한 작업이다. 사람들은 쉽게 볼 수 없는 상황을 관찰하기 위해 이를 돕는 도구들을 개발했고, 우리는 이 도구들을 사용하며 보는 것에 점점 익숙해지고 있다. 이 작업은 디지털 카메라와 3D 그래픽 도구를 사용하여 만든 자연이미지로 보는 이들의 눈을 끊임없이 의심스럽게 만드는 것을 목표로 하고 있다.
